Mancherial City



mnclMancherial is a city and a municipality in Adilabad district, Andhra Pradesh, India. Mancherial was previously known as "Garmilla". Mancherial is unoffically know as the North District of this region. Mancherial is the biggest and commercial city in Adilabad. Mancherial is a commercial hub catering to the coal belt of Singareni collieries. The cement plant Mancherial Cement Company (MCC) previously known as Associated Cement Company (ACC) Limited is located on the north bank of the Godavari river.

Mancherial municipality was etablished in 1956. Both private and government owned hospitals and nursing homes in the town cater to a wide area and diverse population, including miners, tribals and farmers from the surrounding areas. Specialists from Hyderabad and Warangal often visit the city to address complicated cases.

Mancherial city falls on the the Kashmir to Kanyakumari railway route. The railways provide an essential service to the nearby areas which are home to the famous Singareni Coal Mines, one of the biggest in India, and innumerable cement factories. The area serves as a major halting destination for goods transport. The Mancherial railway station is well connected by major rail services. Almost all the express services and regular local and district trains have a halt here.

Mancherial city is also home to some of the most famous temples in the Adilabad district. The major attraction is the Sri Vishwanath Alayam which comprises of temples for Lord Shiva, Lord Venkateshwara and Goddess Durga. The Sri Anjaneya Swamy temple is one of the oldest temples and is located on the banks of the Godavari river. Situated on the banks of Godavari the Sri Gouthameshwara Swamy temple attracts thousands of devotees every year on the occasion of Maha Shiva Rathri.

Another unique temple in Mancherial is the Sri Laxmi Narayana Swamy temple built by the Marwadi community of Mancherial. An unique aspect of this temple is the architecture which has resembles temples found in Northern India. A very famous temple in the Telangana region is that of Samakka Sarallamma, tribal deities reverred by the locals, that attracts visitors from Maharashtra, Chattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. The festivities are held on the banks of Godavari. The temple is built every year, which gets washed away in the monsoon season.


Mancherial also has 8 Mosque (Masjid). Jama Masjid is the biggest mosque in the city followed by Arfath situated in Islampura. There are also a number of churches in the city. The main church is located in Hammalivada and another famous church is the ACC church.

The main occupation of the local population is work in Singareni coal mines which is the biggest employer in the region. The MCC (previously ACC) cement factory and the nearby Sirpur Paper Mill also provide employement to the people in this regions.

The city also offers a lot of entertainment avenues. The city has six cinema theatres with two theatres located in CCC Colony. The Venkateswara and Saibaba temples are famous with the locals. The Naspur colony has a Hanuman temple. The city also has major bank branches and ATM centers of banks like State Bank of India (SBI), State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH), Housind Development Finance Corporation Bank (HDFC), Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India Bank (ICICI), Axis bank and Andhra Bank.

Major areas in and around five kilometres of Mancherial are Krishna colony, Naspur colony, Shirkey Colony, Nagarjuna and New Nagarjuna quarters. The general managers office of the Singareni coalmines and CCC is located in Srirampur Colony. Two good and neatly maintained parks surrounded these colonies. A swimming pool, Church and Geeta Dhyana Mandiram are located in the C.C.C area.
